6’1 207 lb true sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Renfro has yet to be at practice. Judging from his Twitter profile he does not seem to be as invested in UW Football as the other players. He could be gone, or not. Either way it will be interesting.
Renfro caught 13 passes for 178 yards last season as a true freshman. He had a catch rate of 77%. He has good size, good hands and was fairly elusive and difficult to tackle after the catch. More importantly, he’s the most talented player at a position that is a weakness. UW has a clear weakness at WR and Renfro is the only near blue-chip type talent brought in during Petersen’s three classes. That and poor performance from the WR’s last season cost Brent Pease his job.
Other guys at the position can and should develop. Dante Pettis had a disappointing sophomore season after a decent true freshman season. Maybe the new coach Bush Hamdan will help him. Brayden Lenius needs to de-pussify his game, develop into a threat and most important, stop getting penalties that cost his team points. He has the size (6’5 227) to be a weapon.
We’ve had high hopes for Renfro as he has the talent to be kind of receiver UW hasn’t had under Petersen; someone with size and some physical skills. Unfortunately, some bad news on Renfro could be coming in the days ahead. We hope not.
